Supreme Court of Pakistan

The Supreme Court of Pakistan is the supreme judicial authority and apex court of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, established under Part VII of the Constitution of Pakistan. It holds ultimate appellate, original, and advisory jurisdiction over every other court in the country, including the high courts, district courts, and special and Shariat courts, and its rulings are the final word on legal disputes not reserved to the newer Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan, which took over the Supreme Court's former role as final interpreter of constitutional law after the Twenty-seventh Amendment. The Court is composed of the Chief Justice of Pakistan, seventeen other justices, and two ad hoc appointments to its Shariat Appellate Bench; justices serve until age 65 unless they resign or are removed for misconduct. It sits permanently in Islamabad at the Supreme Court Building in the Red Zone.
