Mian Abdul Rashid

Sir Mian Abdul Rashid (29 June 1889 to 6 November 1981) was the first Chief Justice of Pakistan, serving from 1949 to 1954. Born in Lahore to the Mian family of Baghbanpura, he was educated at Forman Christian College and Christ's College, Cambridge, and was called to the bar from the Middle Temple in London in 1913. He was appointed Chief Justice on 27 June 1949 and administered the oath of office to Muhammad Ali Jinnah as Pakistan's first Governor-General on 15 August 1947. He was succeeded as Chief Justice by Muhammad Munir in 1954, was knighted, and received the Hilal-e-Pakistan award; Islamabad's 7th Avenue was later renamed Justice Sir Mian Abdul Rashid Avenue in his honor.
