Jawwad S. Khawaja

Jawwad S. Khawaja (born 10 September 1950 in Wazirabad, Punjab, to Kashmiri parents) was the twenty-third Chief Justice of Pakistan, serving a brief tenure from 15 August to 9 September 2015 after nomination by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and appointment by President Mamnoon Hussain. He had earlier served as senior justice of the Supreme Court from 2014 to 2015, was educated at Aitchison College and earned an LLM from the University of California, Berkeley, and worked as a legal advocate from 1975 and later as a law professor at the Lahore University of Management Sciences. In 2007 he resigned from the Lahore High Court in protest at the mistreatment of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, and he later wrote a memoir, Slaughtered Without a Knife: Sixteen Years a Judge.
