United States Supreme Court

National Supreme Courts (Last Resort)

The United States Supreme Court is the highest federal court in the United States, established by Article III of the United States Constitution and formally created by the Judiciary Act of 1789. It has final appellate jurisdiction over questions of federal law and the Constitution, and original jurisdiction in a small set of cases, chiefly disputes between states. It has consisted of nine justices, appointed for life by the President with the advice and consent of the Senate, since 1869, after several earlier changes to the Court size.

Mapp v Ohio (Wikipedia)
WikipediaDecided: Mapp v Ohio, Introduction
Quote, Decided: Mapp v Ohio, Introduction
Mapp v. Ohio, 367 U.S. 643 (1961), is a landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision in which the Court ruled that the exclusionary rule, which prevents a prosecutor from using evidence that was obtained by violating the Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, also applies to the states. The Supreme Court accomplished this by use of a principle known as selective incorporation. In Mapp, this involved the incorporation of the provisions, as interpreted by the Court, of the Fourth Amendment (which applies only to actions of the federal government) into the Fourteenth Amendment's Due Process Clause.
