Korematsu v United States

Korematsu v United States was a 1944 decision of the Supreme Court of the United States upholding the conviction of Fred Korematsu for defying a military exclusion order issued under Executive Order 9066, the order that led to the forced removal and internment of roughly 120,000 Japanese Americans during the Second World War. The Court held the exclusion order was justified by pressing wartime military necessity. Korematsu's own conviction was vacated in 1983 after a coram nobis petition uncovered evidence that the government had suppressed and misrepresented the military necessity claims made to the Court. The Supreme Court itself repudiated the decision in Trump v Hawaii (2018), stating it had been gravely wrong the day it was decided and had already been overruled in the court of history.
