George Shiras Jr. lived from January 26, 1832 to August 2, 1924 and was an American lawyer who served as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States from 1892 to 1903. At the time of his appointment he had 37 years of private legal practice but had never judged a case, and he is noted for his conservative voting with the majority in Pollock v. Farmers Loan and Trust Co. and in Plessy v. Ferguson.
