Amy Coney Barrett

Amy Vivian Coney Barrett was born on January 28, 1972, and has served as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States since 2020, nominated by President Donald Trump to succeed Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and confirmed by the Senate 52 to 48 just weeks before that years presidential election. She is the fifth woman to serve on the Court. A graduate of Notre Dame Law School, where she later taught as a professor, she clerked for Justice Antonin Scalia and served as a judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit from 2017 to 2020 before her appointment. Regarded as a protegee of Scalia and a proponent of textualism and originalism, she is generally counted among the Courts conservative bloc, though she has shown a pattern of independence as a swing vote in some cases.
