The Supreme Court of Mexico, formally the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation and known in Spanish as the Suprema Corte de Justicia de la Nacion, abbreviated SCJN, is the highest court in Mexico and the apex of the Mexican federal judiciary. Its judges, called ministers, are elected for twelve-year terms, with each branch of the federal government forming an evaluation committee that selects candidates to run for a Court seat; the minister receiving the most votes serves as chief justice for a two-year period, after which the office rotates according to the number of votes each minister received in the last judicial election.
