Israeli law is a mixed jurisdiction combining a common law foundation inherited from the British Mandate with civil law elements drawn from Ottoman and continental sources, alongside religious law, Halakha and Sharia, governing personal-status matters such as marriage and divorce. In place of a single written constitution, Israel's Basic Laws function as its constitutional core, interpreted through Knesset legislation and Supreme Court precedent.
