Dorit Werba Beinisch served as the ninth President of the Supreme Court of Israel from 2006 to 2012, the first woman to hold that office. She joined Israel's Ministry of Justice in 1967 and served as State Attorney from 1989 to 1995, also the first woman to hold that post, before her appointment as a Supreme Court justice in 1995, and her tenure as President emphasized judicial independence, human rights protection, and government accountability.
