The law of Afghanistan is uncodified sharia, interpreted according to the Hanafi school of Islamic jurisprudence. Since returning to power, the ruling Taliban administration has enforced a strict Hanafi-only application of this law, setting aside the codified statutes and rights protections that existed under Afghanistan's prior constitutional governments.
