Yang Sung-tae served as the fifteenth Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Korea from September 2011 to September 2017. He earned his law degree from Seoul National University in 1970 and began his judicial career in 1975 as a judge of the Seoul Civil District Court, going on to serve in courts across the country, teach at the Judicial Research and Training Institute, and lead the Busan District Court and the Patent Court as chief judge before his appointment as a Supreme Court Justice in February 2005, a post he held until his elevation to Chief Justice six years later.
