Pieter Hendrik Kooijmans, who lived from July 6, 1933, to February 13, 2013, was a Dutch politician, jurist and diplomat born in Heemstede, Netherlands. He held professorships in public international law at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and at Leiden University, where he taught from 1978 to 1992. He served as the Netherlands' State Secretary for Foreign Affairs from 1973 to 1977 under Prime Minister Joop den Uyl, and later as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1993 to 1994 under Prime Minister Ruud Lubbers. He was a judge of the International Court of Justice from March 1, 1997, to March 1, 2006, succeeding Luigi Ferrari Bravo and being succeeded by Kenneth Keith.
