Nicolas Bayona Ba Meya

Nicolas Bayona Ba Meya (1938-1998) was a Congolese jurist. He served as a judge in Lubumbashi and on the Supreme Court before becoming First President of the Supreme Court of Justice of Zaire from 1975 to 1983, and he was dean of the law faculty at the National University of Zaire in Kinshasa. In 1975 he submitted a legal opinion to the International Court of Justice during its consideration of Western Sahara, arguing that ancestral and spiritual ties could establish territorial claims stronger than the doctrine of terra nullius.
