United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit

The United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit is a federal appellate court established on 16 June 1891 with appellate jurisdiction over the federal district courts of Connecticut, New York, and Vermont, covering the Eastern, Northern, Southern, and Western Districts of New York along with the Districts of Connecticut and Vermont. It sits at the Thurgood Marshall United States Courthouse at 40 Foley Square in lower Manhattan and has thirteen active judgeships. Because its territory includes New York City, a major financial center, it has long been regarded as one of the most prestigious and influential of the federal circuit courts, particularly in contract, securities, and antitrust law, and in the twentieth century it was considered, alongside the D.C. Circuit, one of the two most prominent federal appellate courts.
