Supreme Court of Cambodia

The Supreme Court is regulated under Article 55 to Article 73 of the 2014 Law on Court Organization. The Supreme Court is the highest Court in Cambodia and located in the capital Phnom Penh

At present, the Cambodian judiciary consists of the Courts of First Instance, Appeal Court and Supreme Court. The Court of First Instance is the lower Court and the Appeal Court and the Supreme Court are the Higher Courts

The Supreme Court and Prosecutor-General’s Office had been created by a Decree No 28 ក្រ dated July 31, 1985

In 1993, the Cambodia-State created the Law of Designative and Activity Courts dated on February 28, 1993.

The Supreme Court of the Kingdom of Cambodia is located in Phnom Penh

The Civil Chamber of the Supreme Court has jurisdiction to adjudicate appeals against judgements or verdicts of the Civil Chamber of Court of Appeal, and motions against the rulings from the Civil Chamber of Court of Appeal. In rare instances, the Civil Chamber of the Supreme Court also has jurisdiction to adjudicate appeals against judgements or verdicts from the Civil Court of First Instance (for example, small claims Cases) per the Code of Civil Procedure.

Each Chamber of the Supreme Court comprises a President of the Chamber (appointed by the President of the Supreme Court), judges and clerks.

The Plenary Hearing Chamber may be convened and will be presided over by the President of the Supreme Court with at least nine judges, where judgements or verdicts from the Court of Appeal have been appealed twice or final and enforceable Judgements have been requested for re-trial.
