Supreme Constitutional Court of Syria

Constitutional Courts

The Supreme Constitutional Court of Syria is the country's constitutional court, an independent judicial body based in Damascus. Under the 2012 Constitution it decided on the constitutionality of laws, heard disputes over elections to the People's Council and could try the president, with members named by presidential decree for renewable four-year terms. After the change of government, Article 47 of the Constitutional Declaration dissolved the previous court and provided for a new Supreme Constitutional Court of seven members appointed by the President of the republic. In 2026 a decree named Issam Khaled al-Khalif as its president together with six other members.
