The Plurinational Constitutional Tribunal is the court of constitutional justice of Bolivia, created by the 2009 Constitution to ensure the supremacy of the Constitution, exercise constitutional control and safeguard constitutional rights and guarantees. It is separate from the Supreme Tribunal of Justice, which heads the ordinary courts. Its seven titular and seven substitute magistrates are elected by popular vote and represent both the ordinary system and the rural native indigenous system, with at least two coming from the indigenous system. They serve a single personal term of six years. The tribunal has its seat in Sucre, the constitutional capital, and its rulings bind everyone and admit no ordinary appeal.
