Constitutional Court of Indonesia

The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia, known in Indonesian as Mahkamah Konstitusi Republik Indonesia (MKRI or MK), is one of Indonesia's apex courts alongside the Indonesian Supreme Court. Its primary role is reviewing the constitutionality of Acts of Parliament, and it also resolves disputes over the powers of state institutions, settles disputes over the results of general elections, decides on the dissolution of political parties, and supervises impeachment proceedings, though the last two functions have never been exercised. The court was established as a consequence of the third amendment to the Constitution of Indonesia, ratified by the People's Consultative Assembly on 9 November 2001; between that amendment and the court's establishment, the Indonesian Supreme Court carried out its duties. The court is the seat of the Permanent Secretariat for Planning and Coordination of the Association of Asian Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Institutions. Suhartoyo and Anwar Usman each served as its Chief Justice, Suhartoyo since November 2023 and Usman as its sixth Chief Justice.
