Law of Slovenia

Civil Law Family

The judiciary of Slovenia runs through three instances: 44 local courts and 11 district courts at first instance, four appellate courts in Celje, Koper, Ljubljana, and Maribor plus a specialized labor and social security appellate court at the second tier, and the Supreme Court of the Republic of Slovenia at the top ensuring consistent jurisprudence, alongside a separate Constitutional Court for constitutional and human rights matters. Judges receive permanent tenure upon appointment by the National Assembly on nomination by the Judicial Council, and Slovenian judges are typically not drawn from practicing lawyers but instead rise through court service.
