The Personal Data Protection Act, No. 9 of 2022 is comprehensive Sri Lankan legislation passed by the Parliament of Sri Lanka to regulate the processing of personal data, protect the privacy of individuals, establish rights for data subjects, and impose obligations on data controllers and processors. The Act was enacted March 9, 2022 and signed March 19, 2022, and is administered by the Data Protection Authority of Sri Lanka. It has entered into force only in parts: Part V took effect July 17, 2023, and Parts VI, VIII, IX and X took effect December 1, 2023, with the remaining parts of the Act still pending commencement.
