What did Chief Justice Hamoodur Rahman's court rule about Yahya Khan's seizure of power?
The court held that Yahya Khan's assumption of power was an illegal usurpation.
Yahya Khan took over the country through martial law in 1969 after President Ayub Khan resigned. In the case brought by Asma Jillani, the Supreme Court under Hamoodur Rahman retroactively invalidated that martial law, which had suspended the Constitution, and ruled that Yahya Khan's assumption of power was an illegal usurpation.
