Canon and Christian Legal Thought

Canon and Christian Legal Thought gathers the canonists, church jurists and clergy who shaped the law of the Christian churches, both the Latin canon law tradition that grew out of the medieval Western church and the parallel ecclesiastical law of the Byzantine and Eastern Orthodox world. Its members range from early Church Fathers who advised on Roman-era church discipline through medieval bishops, archbishops and monastic scholars to the Byzantine judge-clergy who administered law under the Eastern Roman and later Ottoman-era Orthodox hierarchy.
