Raymond of Penafort was a thirteenth-century Catalan friar of the Dominican order who worked as a canon lawyer. He compiled the Decretals of Gregory IX, a codification of canon law that remained a major part of the Catholic Churchs legal system until it was abrogated by the 1917 Code of Canon Law.
