Vladlen Stepanovich Vereshchetin was a Russian jurist born on 8 January 1934 who died in 2024, a professor of international law at the Institute of State and Law of the Russian Academy of Sciences whose scholarship focused on the law of the sea, space law and the theory of international law. He served as a member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration from 1984 to 1995 and as a member and chairman of the United Nations International Law Commission in the early 1990s. He was elected a judge of the International Court of Justice in 1995 and served until 2006, later serving as Honorary Director of the International Institute of Space Law.
