International Court of Justice Judges: Eastern Europe gathers the judges of the International Court of Justice who sit as members representing the Eastern European regional group in the United Nations' own practice for electing the court, one of the five regional groups this parent group is split into because the International Court of Justice has sat continuously since 1946 with a bench that has always reflected every major region of the world. Its members include jurists from Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and Romania, and the Russian Federation and its Soviet predecessor state, which has held a seat on the court in nearly every period of its existence as one of the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council.
