Vladimir Mikhailovich Koretsky, who lived from February 17, 1890, to July 25, 1984, was a Soviet legal academic of Ukrainian origin who specialized in international law, private international law and legal history. He was the first Soviet scholar to become a member of the United Nations International Law Commission, served in Soviet delegations to the United Nations from 1946 to 1949, and headed the Sector of State and Law at the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences from 1949 to 1974, an institute later named for him. He was a member of the International Court of Justice from 1961 to 1970, serving as the court's vice president from 1967 to 1970.
