Udo Di Fabio, born March 26, 1954, in Duisburg, is a German legal scholar who served as a judge of the Federal Constitutional Court of Germany's Second Senate from December 1999 to December 2011. After completing his legal studies and judging at a social court, he moved into academia, holding professorships in public and constitutional law at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich from 1997 to 2003 and at the University of Bonn from 2003 onward. Beyond the bench, he has served on the boards of institutions including the Friedrich August von Hayek Foundation and the German Institute for International and Security Affairs, and advised the government of North Rhine-Westphalia on the economic consequences of the pandemic in 2020.
