Sir Timoci Uluiburotu Tuivaga lived from 21 October 1931 to 30 December 2015 and was a Fijian jurist born on Matuku Island in Lau Province, remembered as Fiji's first native-born Chief Justice. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Auckland on a Lau Provincial Council scholarship, studied law at the Middle Temple in London and was admitted to the bar in 1964. He served as a Native Magistrate from 1958 to 1961, as Crown Counsel from 1965 and Principal Legal Officer from 1968 to 1970, was appointed a Puisne Judge in 1972, and served as Chief Justice of Fiji from 31 March 1980 to 31 July 2002. He was knighted in the 1980 Birthday Honours.
