Sir Robert Yewdall Jennings was a British jurist who lived from 19 October 1913 to 4 August 2004, born in Idle, West Yorkshire. He held the Whewell Professorship of International Law at Cambridge University from 1955 to 1982, building a scholarly reputation that led to his appointment as a judge of the International Court of Justice in 1982, where he was reappointed in 1991 and served as President from 1991 to 1994 before resigning from the Court in 1995.
