Miriam Meßling

Miriam Messling is a German judge born in Wuppertal in 1973 who has served as a justice of the First Senate of the Federal Constitutional Court since April 2023. She studied law at the Universities of Trier and Munster, earned her doctorate at Munster in 2001 with a thesis comparing German and Italian contract law, and passed her second state law examination in 2002. She worked as a judicial clerk at the Federal Constitutional Court before becoming a judge at the social courts of Karlsruhe and Freiburg, was seconded to the Federal Social Court, held posts in the Baden-Wurttemberg justice ministry including heading its personnel and civil service law divisions, and returned to the Federal Social Court as a judge in 2016, later serving as its presiding judge and vice president before her appointment to the constitutional court.
