Md Raus Sharif served as the eighth Chief Justice of Malaysia from April 2017 to July 2018, succeeding Arifin Zakaria. He joined Malaysia's legal and judicial service as a magistrate in 1976 after earning his law degree from the University of Malaya, became a judicial commissioner in 1994 and a High Court judge in 1996, sitting in courts including Kuala Lumpur, Shah Alam, Muar and Penang, before joining the Court of Appeal in 2006 and rising to its presidency in 2011, the post he held until becoming Chief Justice. He earned a master of laws degree from the London School of Economics in 1987.
