Ketanji Brown Jackson

Ketanji Onyika Brown Jackson was born on September 14, 1970, in Washington, D.C., and raised in Miami, Florida. She has served as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States since 2022, nominated by President Joe Biden to succeed Justice Stephen Breyer, for whom she had clerked early in her career. She is the first Black woman, the first former federal public defender, and the sixth woman to serve on the Court. Before her elevation to the Supreme Court she served as vice chair of the United States Sentencing Commission, as a federal district judge for the District of Columbia, and briefly on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, and she is considered part of the Courts liberal wing alongside justices Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor.
