Ines Hartel is a German judge born in 1972 in Stassfurt who has served as a justice of the First Senate of the Federal Constitutional Court since July 2020. She studied law at the University of Gottingen, earned her doctorate there in 2001 on comparative agricultural and environmental law, and completed her habilitation in 2005. She directed the Institute of Agricultural Law at Gottingen, held a professorship and headed the mining and energy law institute at Ruhr University Bochum, then became a professor and later vice president at European University Viadrina in Frankfurt an der Oder, sat as a subsidiary judge on the Berlin-Brandenburg Higher Administrative Court, and founded a research center for digital law before her appointment to the constitutional court.
