Guy Jules Ladreit de la Charriere, who lived from January 27, 1919, in Marseille, to March 10, 1987, in Paris, was a French diplomat and jurist who held a license in letters and a doctorate in law, and trained at the Institute of Comparative Law and the National Institute of Oriental Languages and Civilizations, where he studied Russian. His career spanned legal and diplomatic service at France's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and at UNESCO. He served as a judge of the International Court of Justice from 1982 until his death in 1987, and as the court's vice president from 1985 until his death.
