Sir Gerald Gray Fitzmaurice, who lived from 24 October 1901 to 7 September 1982, was an English barrister and judge educated at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge. He served as Senior Legal Advisor to the British Foreign Office from 1953 to 1960, as a member of the International Law Commission from 1955 to 1960, as a judge of the International Court of Justice from 1960 to 1973, as a member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration from 1964 to 1973, and as a judge of the European Court of Human Rights from 1974 to 1980.
