Edvard Isak Hambro lived from 1911 to 1977 and was a Norwegian legal scholar, diplomat and Conservative Party politician born in Kristiania, now Oslo. He served as the twenty fifth President of the United Nations General Assembly from 1970 to 1971, as Permanent Representative of Norway to the United Nations from 1966 to 1971, and as Ambassador of Norway to France from 1976 to 1977. Earlier in his career he was Registrar of the International Court of Justice at The Hague from 1946 to 1953, a delegate to the 1945 San Francisco Conference that founded the United Nations, and Professor of Jurisprudence at the Norwegian School of Economics from 1959 to 1966.
