Diya' al-Din al-Maqdisi (1173 to 1245) was a Hanbali Islamic scholar born in Damascus to a family that had emigrated from Nablus during the Crusader period. Known as the Sheikh of hadith scholars, he specialized in collecting and authenticating the sayings and reports attributed to the Prophet Muhammad within the Hanbali school of Islamic jurisprudence. He was related to other prominent Hanbali scholars, including his maternal uncle Ibn Qudamah and the scholar Abd al-Ghani al-Maqdisi.
