Raymond Mnyamezeli Mlungisi Zondo, born 4 May 1960 in Ixopo, Natal, is a South African jurist who served as the 22nd Chief Justice of South Africa from 1 April 2022 until his retirement on 31 August 2024, having acted in the role from 11 October 2021. President Cyril Ramaphosa appointed him Chief Justice; he had earlier served as Deputy Chief Justice from 2017 and as a judge of the Constitutional Court from 2012, and before that as Judge President of the Labour Court and a judge of the North Gauteng High Court and the Labour Court. He has served as Chancellor of the University of Zululand since April 2018.

Raymond Mnyamezeli Mlungisi "Ray" Zondo (born 4 May 1960) is a South African jurist who served as the Chief Justice of South Africa from 1 April 2022 until his retirement on 31 August 2024.
Judicial career section
From November 2011 to May 2012, Zondo served as an acting judge of the Constitutional Court. He was permanently appointed with effect from September 2012 and is now considered a key member, with Chris Jafta, of the Court's conservative wing. In June 2017, President Jacob Zuma appointed Zondo to the office of Deputy Chief Justice, succeeding Dikgang Moseneke who retired in 2016.
