Benedict William Kingsbury is Vice Dean and Director of the Institute for International Law and Justice at New York University School of Law. Born in the Netherlands and raised in Hamilton, New Zealand, he holds a law degree from Canterbury University and a doctorate in international relations and law from Balliol College, Oxford, where he was a Rhodes Scholar in 1982. He served as joint Editor in Chief of the American Journal of International Law from 2013 to 2018, received New York University School of Law Podell Distinguished Teaching Award in 2019 and an honorary doctorate from Tilburg University in 2016. His research addresses indigenous peoples rights in international law, global administrative law and global governance.
