Anton Menger von Wolfensgrun was an Austrian legal theorist and social philosopher, born in 1841 in Galicia and died in 1906 in Rome. He taught civil procedural law at the University of Vienna from 1874 to 1899, serving as vice chancellor from 1895 to 1896, and was the brother of the economist Carl Menger. In his 1886 work The Right to the Whole Produce of Labor he argued that law is fundamentally a gauge of social power relations rather than an expression of natural law, grounding socialist theory in legal analysis in a way that drew responses from Friedrich Engels and Karl Kautsky.
