Andras Jakab is a Hungarian-born jurist born on 2 March 1978 in Budapest. He earned a degree in legal and political sciences from the Catholic University Pazmany Peter of Budapest in 2001, an LLM in German law from the University of Heidelberg in 2005, and a doctorate in political and legal sciences from the University of Miskolc in 2007, then lectured in law at Nottingham Trent University from 2004 to 2006 and at the University of Liverpool from 2006 to 2008, and held a research fellowship at the Centre for Political and Constitutional Studies in Madrid from 2008 to 2010. He directed the Institute for Legal Studies of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences from 2013 to 2017 and has been full professor of Austrian constitutional and administrative law at the University of Salzburg since 2017, also advising the Austrian Foreign Ministrys EU law advisory board from 2019 to 2024. He has been Austrias judge at the European Court of Human Rights since 1 November 2024.
