Aemilius Papinianus, known as Papinian, was a celebrated Roman jurist who lived from about 142 to 212 CE. He served as magister libellorum, the imperial office responsible for petitions, and as attorney general during the Severan period. Following the death of Gaius Fulvius Plautianus in 205 CE, Papinian was appointed praetorian prefect, one of the most powerful offices in the Roman administration, a position he held in the final years of his life.
