The judges, legal scholars, and legislators this atlas documents, grouped into eight subcategories by era and tradition: Ancient and Roman Law Jurists, Natural Law and International Law Founders, Legal Philosophy and Jurisprudence, Common Law Founders and Commentators, United States Supreme Court Justices as their own dedicated group, Modern Constitutional and Supreme Court Judges split by world region and by international bench, Civil Law Scholars and Codifiers, and Modern Legislators and Statute Authors. The United States Supreme Court was split out as its own group because it alone held 44 percent of this type's live roster at the time, the same oversized-bucket condition that governs every subcategory split in this atlas. A jurist is linked to the courts they served, the doctrines they shaped, and the codes or statutes they authored by relationship rather than by this band's own grouping.
