Antonio Sanchez de Bustamante y Sirven

Antonio Sanchez de Bustamante y Sirven (1865 to 1951) was a Cuban jurist, educator and politician who shaped the development of international law in the Americas. He is best known for drafting the Code of Private International Law, known as the Bustamante Code, which was adopted by most Latin American nations at the Sixth International Conference of American States in Havana in 1928, a conference he presided over. He also served as a judge of the Permanent Court of Arbitration from 1908 and of the Permanent Court of International Justice from 1921 to 1942, and was the first president of Cuba's National Academy of Arts and Letters from 1942 until his death.
