FAQs

Why did Jean Spiropoulos serve on the International Court of Justice from 1958 to 1967?

His years on the bench match one nine-year term, the length Article 13 of the Court's Statute sets.

Under Article 13 of the Court's Statute, members of the Court are elected for nine years and may be re-elected. Under Article 10, candidates who obtain an absolute majority of votes in both the General Assembly and the Security Council are considered elected.
