All European Court of Human Rights Judges

European Court of Human Rights Judges gathers the judges of the European Court of Human Rights, the Strasbourg based tribunal established under the European Convention on Human Rights to hear individual and state applications alleging violations of the Convention by a member state of the Council of Europe. Each judge sits in respect of one member state, elected by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe from a shortlist of three candidates the state itself nominates, and serves a nine year, non-renewable term. The court's judgments bind the respondent state under international law and have shaped national law across Europe on subjects ranging from privacy and free expression to asylum and criminal procedure, making its judges some of the most influential jurists working in international human rights law today.
