The Council of Luxembourg was the central institution in the government of the Duchy of Luxembourg from 1444 to 1795, combining both administrative and judicial authority. It was restructured by Emperor Charles V in 1531-1532, and on August 1, 1782 was elevated to a sovereign court, no longer answerable to the Great Council of Mechelen and holding final judicial authority within its own territory.
