The body of law that governs relations among states and international organizations, and not the internal order of one country, made by treaty, by state practice accepted as law and by general principles of law. A legal system belongs here when its cited article describes that law as a whole or one of its recognized branches. It excludes the domestic legal families of the civil law, common law, religious, customary, socialist and mixed kinds, which sit under their own subcategories.
