International Law is the subcategory of legal systems whose subject is the relations among states and other international actors rather than the internal order of one country. Its rules come from treaties, from customary practice that states follow out of a sense of obligation, and from general principles, and they are applied by international courts, tribunals and treaty bodies as well as by national courts. It sits beside the civil law, common law, religious law, customary law, socialist law and mixed and hybrid families, and it holds Public International Law, the legal system that the international courts, conventions and bodies of the atlas belong to.
